I appreciate you taking the time to read this and your feedback.

I take your point that investing in a new platform might not be the highest priority for TFL right now, I put this forward as how I would prefer things to be and think it would be a much better experience for all concerned and would save money.

My opinion is NFC is an unnecessary technology and a waste of money in most cases but I understand I am probably the only person who thinks this.

If your battery runs out you would have to go to one of the ticket machines and print one off... possibly by entering your login details and having your barcode printed.

Until recently I didn't know the online login details for my own Oyster card I haven't been able to set up auto top-up. I probably would set this up but I would prefer if there was some way of getting a warning about top-ups automated or not.

Thinking of it, all your suggestions could be built into the existing oyster infrastructure. I see no reason to invest in a new platform, and tfl seem not to think so too, with the onward march of Oyster across London transport, and similar systems in operation across the world.

And what if your phone runs out of battery? The low cost + high security possibilities of chip & pin or card & magnetic strip have been proven again and again...hence, I am assuming, similar NFC tech in Oyster, Barclays Wave & Pay+Oyster, and new gen smartphones.

Not to forget that registration + auto top up has meant that although I've lost my oyster card 3 times in 3 years, I've never been stopped at a bus or barrier for lack of loaded funds...

Hey Lala, I think this is the route they plan to take. I’m expecting to see it quite soon.

I would also want to check the balance on the Oyster card.
How about turning a cellphone into an rfid reader?
like that through a free downloadable app, you can check the balance on your card.
What do you think?
